Winter on the Little Washougal River

Thursday, January 14, 2016

The Little Washougal River is one of our favorite neighborhood treats. It’s located a few steps from our ViewHome™ in Camas. On clear, winter days we can see a part of the river sparkle through the tall pine trees on our front property line.  It makes us nearly giddy, as both of us treasure the energy of moving water.

We also frequently sit on the river bank. Meditation, reflection and a sense of peace is easy to attain with the water gurgling and splashing over the rocks. Some people seek this river out for an adrenaline inducing adventure. White water enthusiasts run the 6.8 mile stretch during the winter months. It’s rated difficult, a class ll -lll (lV), therefore experienced rafters will fare better on the Little Washougal.

Summer brings lower water tables, and large pools of water are often filled with young families cooling off in the heat of midday. However, for the time being, the water is running fast and full thanks to our higher than usual amount of winter rainfall. We shot this short video with an iPhone 6 on Christmas Day. We purposefully left it raw and natural, no editing or music track. Much like the river.
