We have sold a number of homes located along the Washougal River Road in Washougal. It’s fair to say the river is one of our favorites in Clark County. The road begins near downtown Washougal and ends about sixteen and half miles at Dougan Falls, a destination point for camping and swimming.

Washougal River

Among the many bodies of water in this region, the Washougal River is an especially prized waterway for recreation, boating, fishing, and peaceful living. Originating in the pristine forests of the Cascade Mountains, it runs undammed for 33 miles from the Pinchot National Forest into the Columbia River. This fast-flowing river offers many sections of whitewater, including stretches that are rated 4, 5, or 5+ (with 6 as the highest) on the International Scale of River Difficulty.

There are many destination points along the river. Dougan Falls, for example, is a popular spot featuring waterfalls that plunge up to 30 feet into a narrow trough that widens into a massive, deep pool. This location is ideal for swimming on a hot summer day, Get there early as parking is limited. Note: as with most public sites along the Washougal, you may need a Washington State Discover Pass,

The Washougal is known for excellent fishing: seasonal coho and chinook salmon, cutthroat trout, and year round  run of steelhead. To protect the wild run of steelhead and salmon, some areas are closed to fishing, and some areas are catch-and-release. Before heading out, it’s best to check the Washington State Fishing Regulations or call the local office of Fish and Wildlife.
