Along the Columbia River, Camas was officially incorporated in 1906, making it one of the oldest cities in the region. The paper mill, which still operates in town was originally the major source of commerce in the area. Now the city has diversified greatly with employers such as Sharp Hewlett Packard, Microelectronics, Linear Technology, WaferTech, and Fisher Investments. It is known for its vibrant downtown activities with shops, restaurants, and other services in a small-town Main Street atmosphere.
