Multi-Generational Musings - Sunday's Pick

Sunday, March 13, 2016

CBS Sunday Morning is a favorite with our multi-gen family. My parents are downstairs watching it with my sister and her husband. Bernie, my husband, is watching it in our Great Room and I can hear some of the stories from my desk in the back of the house. If something really piques my interest, I’ll join him.

There are fires going in both of our wood-stoves, upstairs and down, and it’s a cozy morning as we wait for an incoming wind-storm. We have plenty of privacy in this lifestyle, but know others are generally close by if we need them. Peace of mind is at a premium when you live with people you trust and love.

Bernie and I are going to dinner in Portland tonight, and we are comfortable knowing the the rest of the family will be here to monitor the storm. Our acreage is dotted with huge fir trees and record rainfall has saturated the ground. High winds sometimes topple trees and while we are not expecting any mishaps, one never knows.

We are kind of sorry we have the dinner obligation as we both love to watch the tall evergreens sway in the wind. Although these beauties can become unwilling instruments of destruction in severe weather, we wouldn’t want to live without our trees. They give our property character, provide shade during the summer months, give habitat to wildlife, and even provide oxygen. What’s not to love?
